A readable, chapter-style account of the campaign as it actually unfolds.

Prologue — Before the Mists

Long before any road vanished beneath the fog, four travelers had already found their way into one another's stories.

Eleanor “Nell” Pembroke and Conan left Waterdeep together and took to the road. Rhaevyra, newly arrived in Waterdeep from across the ocean, first crossed their path there before encountering them again in her travels. Mystic Wolf, who had known Nell through their work as healers, eventually followed his own road out of the city.

In time, all four reunited in or around Daggerford. They did not remain strangers for long. They completed several tasks together, enough to earn the notice of Duchess Morwen and establish themselves as a genuine adventuring company.

That is where this story begins: not with four strangers forced together by circumstance, but with four companions who already know how to travel, fight, and work beside one another.

Chapter I — Creeping Fog

Duchess Morwen asked the four companions to deliver a final warning to troublesome travelers camped outside Daggerford. The travelers had already vanished when the party reached their camp, leaving wagon tracks that disappeared into the underbrush.

A blue light moved among the trees. Mystic Wolf and Rhaevyra followed it while Nell and Conan pursued the wagon tracks. When the light vanished, Mystic’s red glow helped the party reunite—but no one could find the way back.

Fog thickened around them. Familiar trees gave way to strange ones, and every attempted direction eventually opened onto the same lonely road. The party followed it until swarms of red-eyed bats descended from the darkness. Rhaevyra fell beneath the attack, but Mystic restored her. Conan and Nell cut through the swarms, and Nell chased down one of the two that tried to escape. The other vanished into the fog.

Wounded and stranded, the companions attempted to rest upon the road. Somewhere ahead, something waited beyond the gray.
