Daggerford is a small but consequential walled town in the Delimbiyr Vale on the Sword Coast. It stands on the northern bank of the River Delimbiyr, where the Trade Way crosses the river between Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate. The town is the party's current base as the campaign opens; the four companions reunited in or around Daggerford and completed several tasks together before the events of the campaign.
Primarily a farming community and caravan stop, Daggerford has roughly 1,200 people within the town proper, while many more live on the surrounding farms, hamlets, and estates. It is less crowded than its strategic importance suggests. Its people are proud, practical, and notably resilient, and the town harbors ambitions of becoming more than a mere stopover in Waterdeep's shadow.
Daggerford is governed by Duchess Morwen Daggerford alongside the influential Council of Guilds. The duchy is part of the Lords' Alliance, although its actual authority is strongest in the town and nearby settlements rather than across all the lands historically claimed by Daggerford's rulers.
The town maintains walls, a watch, and a militia. Patrols protect the nearby farms and roads, and capable adventurers are sometimes employed when bandits, raiders, or creatures from the surrounding wilds prove too dangerous for an ordinary patrol.
The party's work in and around Daggerford brought them to Duchess Morwen's attention before the campaign began.
Daggerford lives by agriculture, river traffic, and the caravans traveling the Trade Way. Furs and garments are among its exports, while green wood is brought into town. Commonly honored deities include Chauntea, Lathander/Amaunator, Tempus, and Tymora, giving travelers several familiar places to seek worship, healing, or aid.
