I don't think values mean much if they're just words that sound good. They matter when they actually shape what I do, especially when doing the right thing is hard, inconvenient, uncomfortable, or costs me something.
I don't live these perfectly. I know I can be wrong, and I expect my understanding of some of them to change as I learn and grow. But these are the principles I want my life to line up with.
I want to do what I genuinely believe is right, even when it would be easier not to.
That doesn't mean blindly following a rule just because it's a rule. Life is complicated, principles can conflict, and sometimes there isn't a perfectly clean option. Integrity, to me, means being honest about that, figuring out the most morally faithful thing I can do, and then actually doing it.
A lot of what I have in life feels less like something I own and more like something I have been trusted with. My family, my time, my health, my abilities, my money, my opportunities, my work, and even my own potential all fall into that category.
I want to take care of those things and make good use of them. I want to grow, build, provide, become more capable, and help other people. But I don't want to become so focused on succeeding in one part of life that I neglect everything else that matters.
Reality is what it is whether I like it or not.
I'd rather know something difficult and deal with it than be comfortable because I'm ignoring reality. That also means I need to be willing to admit when I'm wrong and change my mind when the evidence points somewhere else.
At the same time, telling the truth doesn't give me permission to be cruel. I can be honest without being needlessly harsh.
For me, love is more than how I feel about someone. It means genuinely wanting what is good for them and being willing to act like it.
Sometimes that means being present, helping, sacrificing, protecting, or encouraging. Sometimes it means telling someone something they don't want to hear, setting a boundary, or letting them deal with the consequences of a bad choice.
